Life, Improvised

If it feels weird, do it

Improv is fun and comedy is created when we do the unusual thing. Know what else is created when we do the unusual thing? Growth.

In life and work, what got us here won’t get us there. In order to get new results we need to make new choices.

What’s been going on isn’t working, so we need to make new choices to figure out what will work better.

In practicing doing weird things in improv, we prepare ourselves to make new choices and handle change. When we improvise we’re able to reverse patterns by practicing what it’s like to not always do the things we do. Being different from real life is the goal and then we can learn what it feels like to break our patterns. Possibly learning, growing, and developing new, healthier patterns as a result.

Today, make a weird choice.

Do something different. It can be something like picking up your coffee cup or water glass with your opposite hand. Or, instead of checking your phone as soon as you wake up, spend five minutes thinking about what brings you joy. It could be eating something different for breakfast. Whatever new and weird choice it is, make it today.

I SAY YES, AND DO SOMETHING WEIRD AND NEW
